England FS v Scotland FS International

                                   York IBC.   5th & 6th April 2003

After last years excellent win at Stirling it was important that we retained the Trophy on home ground. Both teams on paper suggested that this was going to be a very close encounter and if we were going to triumph a good performance was required by all.

On the first day we got off too a very good start finding the pace and the draw of the green better than the Scots. After ten ends we had a plus 27 shot lead, but could not afford to relax in the second part as it eventually proved. This lead was reduced by the end of the game to 21 shots as the Scots began to find the pace and draw of the green.
On Sunday with the Scots now more familiar with the green the first ten ends were very close, but we still managed a plus 3 shot lead on the day. The Scots now had only eleven ends left to claw back what was now a 24 shot lead, but as the number of ends dwindle it was apparent it was not going to be the Scots day, the final score at the end of the game was now plus 23 making a final total over the two days of plus 44 shots.
This was a great performance by the team since the Scots had brought down a very good side with only one aim and that was to win back the Captains Trophy.

Well done by all.
